I knew about these auctions but its totally different to actually hear them described from within, although the psychological portrait just confirms assumptions about this culture. That God she's a good writer to add a subtle kind of humor to all of it, but overall i think its pretty gross scene. I don't want to be part of this art market ever. I appreciate that she interviews a wide variety of people. I thought it was interesting the woman whose parents were art collectors but didnt brag about the art they had in their house, and how she only realized they were "famous paintings" when she saw her home artwork in an art history book. Her comment that no one talks at these auctions as to how this money could be put to good use was pertinent to me.
